"Polyclinic Šalata" is the polyclinic for cardiology, internal medicine, radiology and clinical biochemistry. It is modeled after polyclinical institutions in the world which are considered the centers of excellence.

At the address of "Polyclinic Šalata", Novakova 17, in 1934 Professor Ante Šercer founded the ear, nose and throat polyclinic, and Professor Ivo Padovan subsequently continued to work there. It was one of best organized polyclinical institutions in the middle Europe. In addition to the physician's office it also had an operating theatre and post surgical patient care. The most up-to-date treatment methods were used, including some original procedures and operations of Professor Šercer. Above all, the polyclinic was distinguished for its special relationship with patients and high professional standards.

Current organization of our Polyclinic applies the principles of famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester , USA, where we worked for a longer period. Mayo Clinic, which was founded by Mayo brothers, cherishes and develops the highest professional standards. First-rate patient standards, top experts, best equipment, perfect organization and use of the latest, but scientifically proven medical achievements, make this medical institution unique in the world. In addition to best equipment, traditional bedside diagnostics is particularly valued, guiding the expert physicians towards shortest path to diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

After getting acquainted with the principles of Mayo Clinic and other leading world polyclinical institutions, in the former Prof. Šercer's polyclinic we combined best European tradition with the modern organization of leading European and American medical institutions, to form a centre of excellence. In designing Polyclinic Šalata, all architectural interventions, equipment, staff, organization, and most minute details were aimed at development of such a centre.

Physician - patient relationship

We consider the personal contact between physician and patient as most important in polyclinical work. Dialogue and examination should be allowed sufficient time, with maximal physician's concentration on patient's discomforts, which is often not possible in crowded medical institutions. After talking with the patient (medical history), follows a detailed physical examination. Diagnosis is based on attentive history taking and detailed physical examination, supplemented with laboratory and instrumental examinations using the latest equipment.

Our team of collaborators are specialists with long time experience in medical institutions in Zagreb and abroad, in the fields of cardiology, internal medicine, pulmology, rheumatology, allergology, clinical immunology, endocrinology, anestheziology, ultrasound diagnostics, radiology and clinical biochemistry. Our collaborators are mostly university professors and consulting physicians, who can give expert opinions in their specialty.

Polyclinic Interior

We welcome our patients in a pleasant interior, different from that in hospitals, comfortable and cozy, relieving patient's apprehension of hospital environment. During adaptation of the interior we tried to preserve high fine art standards cherished during 1930s in Zagreb, particularly in Novakova Street, which represents a unique architectural complex and is an example of the Croatian Modernism.
